Give out some Lovin’

“Give out some Lovin'”

I had written most of the aggressive rock infused material for the “Uncovered” album (2010) and started being concerned that the material was perhaps too ‘heavy’. So I started allowing my mind to explore more upbeat ideas: lyrically and musically.

I’ve always enjoyed the fusion of rock and reggae as a genre (The Police) – it always seemed to ‘lift’ a potentially heavy musical idea. So the music came first with this song. It started off with the verse melody stretching over the duration of 8 bars. I immediately got hooked on it. I can’t say what the initial working title was, but when I picked up my guitar and started singing the chorus hook, the words “Got to give out some lovin'” just flowed out…

It goes without saying that I am compelled and motivated by love primarily. The rest of my music is simply my accounts of having fallen in and out of love at various stages. This is common theme in pop music today. Unfortunately I am unable to write every song as a romantic piece of bubble gum, simply because when I do fall in love I try my utmost to make it work… Perhaps I try too hard, or have been made to try too hard…

But that is perhaps the topic for some songs from the next album…
